Then they started college and the whole world shifted. They instantly thought they were stupid…once they figured out what skills they needed to build, they could find a way to succeed. But the belief that success comes easy is hard to get past!

Our 14 year old is very smart and we told him this from the beginning. Now in high school he's having to "work" for his grades and study outside the classroom for the first time and he convinced himself that he can't pass math. So for him being told he's smart translated into school will always be easy. He's now attending tutoring where he sees other kids having the same issues and his attitude has improved.
